WOMENS MINISTRY AT WORD OF LIFE
Womens Ministry at Word of Life includes a variety of activities for fellowship, service, and faith strengthening. The group generally meets on Wednesday evenings from September to May at the church. Summer activities include lunches and dinners at local restaurants. Our Women’s Fellowship group meets for Bible study at the church on Wednesday evenings during the school year, beginning at 7:15 PM. The fall 2010 study will be on the woman Sarah. From the Book of Genesis, Sarah was beautiful enough to attract rulers in the ancient world and she could be strong-willed and jealous. Yet Sarah was considered a loyal wife who did what was right and who didn't give in to fear. At the age of ninety, she gave birth to Isaac, child of the promise. Women from the Naperville area are welcome to attend the study. Fellowship activities have included attending plays, attending workshops, retreats and conventions, luncheons and dinners at local restaurants, bunco parties, and progressive dinners. A dinner theatre event is planned for October 21 as well as Lutheran Women in Mission Sunday on October 24. For more information, please call Word of Life Lutheran Church at 630 355-9655.
Service in the name of Jesus Christ is important to the women of Word of Life. We are a society of the Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) which is the official women’s organization of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. (For more information regarding LWML, check out their website at www.lwml.org ) We enjoy participating in service projects, which have included putting together various mission kits, which are sent overseas to be used by missionaries. Our most recent projects included collecting baby clothing and diapers as well as linens and school supplies for Lifespring Ministry in Aurora, Illinois, making bibs for developmentally disabled residents of The Bethesda Lutheran Home, nutrition kits for Honduras, midwife kits to be used worldwide, book mark kits for Ghana, and a special “care package from home” for Lutheran Bible Translator missionaries. We also host Lenten and Advent suppers. We financially contribute to various Christian ministries such as The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Naperville, seminary food banks in St. Louis, Missouri and Ft Wayne, Indiana, prison ministry, Life Spring Womens Shelter of Aurora, Care Net Pregnancy, Angelman Foundation, and Lutheran Bible Translators. We also conduct an annual campaign for mission projects of the Lutheran Women in Mission organization. BIBS FOR BETHESDA
